The early signing period has come and gone, with the big news at Central Connecticut being that Trey Tennyson, who verbally committed back in the spring, inked his LOI on November 14th.
In Tennyson, the Blue Devils are getting a guard with some length (6'4") who can really shoot it. Verbal Commits lists him as a point guard, but he's more likely to compete for minutes at the off-guard, and could team up with Ian Krishnan to form a nice 1-2 punch on the wing.
With Tennyson in the fold, that is now three players on next year's roster who are from Texas, with Jamir Coleman and Mike Underwood being the others. It's not clear to me what the connection is down there, but Underwood is also from the Dallas-Forth Worth area, while Coleman is from San Antonio.
So what's next? Donyell Marshall has one available scholarship (Tyler Kohl and Deion Bute are the only seniors), as it stands today, and there are currently *12 outstanding scholarship offers.
*Verbal Commits lists 17 offers, though some of those are players incredibly unlikely to choose CCSU. For example, Dereon Seabron has received offers from Providence, Temple, VCU, Georgia and Minnesota over the last couple of months.
Let's take a look at a rough depth chart for next season:
PG: Batiste, Segwai, Ellis
2G: Krishnan, Tennyson
3G: Hicks, Underwood, Chris Williams
PF: Coleman, Wallace
C: Hugley, Kay
While point guard continues to be the Achilles' heel for the CCSU program, I'd find it hard to believe that Marshall would bring in another point guard unless one of the current three were to transfer.
Outside of PG, the only need appears to be at the 5, as Harrison Kay has played just 8 minutes through six games thus far this season. While Wallace could feasibly play the 5 in a pinch, he probably best fits as a 4 as he's struggled to rebound so far this year.
So it's no surprise that earlier this month, Donyell Marshall offered 6'11" big man Kassem Ouedraogo. The Bronx native also has offers from Kent State and Wagner. It wouldn't be a surprise to see him go after more big men over the winter.
It'll be interesting to see what other types of player receive offers from CCSU in the coming months. If there are any backcourt guys showing up on the Verbal Commits page, it may mean that the coaching staff is aware of someone planning to leave the program.
